In addition to work with draught animals on the farm, Students carried out water flow measurements in the Yare; this involved measuring the flow of water using “pooh sticks” method + measuring the stream dimensions or inserting a florescent dye and measuring the dilution as this moved downstream; monitored soil moisture and physical condition, observed soil erosion, ran small field experiments, measured plant and crop growth, using a range of instruments , both in the field and in the laboratory . Many undergraduate student dissertations took place on the farms over the lifetime of the FARM period. The staff of the natural resources group often helped with management , planting and monitoring tasks.
